The Youth Cancer Council is a bold, youth-led platform bringing together 100 young people across Europe who have lived experience of cancer and were diagnosed either in childhood, adolescence, or as young adults. Through the Council, you’ll have the chance to shape real change by influencing cancer policies, services, and support systems that impact young people across Europe.
This isn’t a one-off consultation. It’s a space for long-term involvement, real co-creation, and making sure that young people’s needs and ideas are heard where it matters most.
Whether you’re passionate about improving cancer care, want to meet others who understand what you’ve been through, or are simply curious about how your voice can drive change, this is your invitation to step in.
About YARN
Just as yarn is made of individual threads woven together, the European Youth Cancer Network (YARN)unites the diverse voices, stories, and strengths of young people affected by cancer across Europe. YARN enhances social networking and peer support, improves access to psychosocial care, supports those facing relapse or long-term effects, and trains the next generation of patient advocates. The project promotes equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in healthcare and will reach millions across Europe through campaigns, educational resources, and a strong community of empowered youth.
What You’ll Gain
As a Youth Cancer Council member, you will:
- Join a diverse group of young people shaping a major European project for young people with cancer
- Participate in online meetings, co-creation sessions, and advocacy activities
- Access mentoring, training, and leadership opportunities
- Take part in local and international events, with travel costs covered where applicable
- Be recognised for your contributions in shaping meaningful tools, resources, and recommendations
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for young people aged 18–39, from all across Europe, who:
- Have lived experience of cancer (diagnosed in childhood, adolescence, or young adulthood)
- Can contribute in English (reading materials, reviewing documents, giving feedback)
- Can commit to at least six online or in-person activities over the 3-year project
- Are ready to share honest perspectives and help improve cancer care for others
We’re especially encouraging applications from underrepresented communities and those who have faced barriers to care or inclusion.

I don’t know any other people of my age who have had cancer. I would like to learn more about other’s experiences, since often I feel like because I was so young, I’m not aware of what I went trough – and many people tell me I’m lucky I don’t remember it. Truthfully, I don’t remember being in the hospital. However, I remember what came next: how it was so hard to fit in society, learn social dynamics, how I’ve always felt different as a kid. I’d love to know if other people had experiences like those, since the average person has no idea how that has impacted me. Besides, I study international relations in university, so I think being willing to help is part of I’m nature, and I’m always curious and excited to help any cause that embraces different nationalities.
