Psychosocial Follow-Up in Survivorship as a Standard of Care in Pediatric Oncology

A group of psychosocial health professionals from the paediatric oncology field worked on developing Standards for psychosocial care in paediatric oncology.

Year:2015

A group of psychosocial health professionals from the paediatric oncology field worked on developing Standards for psychosocial care in paediatric oncology.

In the process, they proposed a total of 15 Standards, including one standard for psychosocial Follow-Up Care, as mental health, social and socio-economic challenges are rather common among survivors of childhood and adolescent cancer.

At the same time, follow-up care is still lacking, and thus psychosocial follow-up care.

In their standard, the authors describe social, vocational, academic and mental health challenges, as well as risky health behaviours, and propose regular psychosocial screenings and anticipatory guidance on long-term follow-up care and survivorship.
