In France, 2500 children are diagnosed with cancer every year. The brochure addresses issues related to prolonged absences due to illness and how best to resume school and what support is needed.
After the hardship of illness, students deserve to be welcomed back at school. Getting pupils to accept their classmate’s physical difference, encouraging communication with him/ her, helping him/her to cope with the new-found reality of school and proposing goal setting are important and challenging tasks. On the other side, teaching a child suffering from cancer can be an enriching human experience for teachers, enabling them to broaden their professional and personal horizons
