About the Event
The concept of Peer Visits is rooted in observational research. In our project participants will be able to observe healthcare professionals and other service providers in their natural environment.
Three types of observation will be used:
- naturalistic observation where the peer visit participants will observe the environment where the healthcare professionals are working;
- participatory observation where the participants will conduct interviews, take notes and photographs;
- structured observation, where the participants will observe specific aspects of AYA care, long-term follow-up of late effects and transition from paediatric to adult oncology care, filling in a Peer Observation Form.
Peer Visits are expected to result in valuable feedback to the collaborating institution and actionable takeaways for peers to support health-policy initiatives in their home countries. This form of peer learning is designed to stimulate interaction, collaborative learning and solution-building.
The Peer Visit in Milan, Italy will focus on adolescent and young adult (AYA) care. On the 15th and 16th of May, the participants will visit Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori, and on the 17th of May, there will be organised External Peer Meetings.
The aim is to contribute to a “Specialist AYA Units Minimum Standards” position paper, which will be developed based on peer study reports resulting from Peer Visits to AYA oncology departments in Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands.
The next in-person Peer Visits will take place in July 2023, in Ghent, Belgium and Amsterdam & Utrecht, the Netherlands.
Travel and subsistence costs are covered.
