About the Event

The concept of Peer Visits is rooted in observational research. In our project participants will be able to observe healthcare professionals and other service providers in their natural environment. Peer Visits are also expected to result in valuable feedback to the collaborating institution as well as actionable takeaways for peers to support health-policy initiatives in their home-countries. This form of peer learning is designed to stimulate interaction, collaborative learning and solution-building.

We aim to have 3 separate groups focusing on the three topics below.

Peer Visit topic: adolescent and young adult (AYA) care
  • The overall aim of this group is to contribute to a “Specialist AYA Units Minimum Standards” position paper, that will be developed based on peer study reports resulting from Peer Visits to AYA oncology departments in Belgium, Italy and the Netherlands.
  • Expected participants: 30 young people with lived experience of cancer

Peer Visit topic: transition from pediatric to adult follow-up care
  • The overall aim of this group is to improve the transition from child-centre to adult-oriented health care settings. The peer visits contribute to a transition guideline that will be developed based on 1) existing literature and 2) the peer study reports resulting from the peer visits to institutions in the Netherlands, Austria and Spain which have transition programmes in place.
  • Expected participants: 20 participants, including young people with lived experience of cancer, parents of CAYA cancer patients and survivors, as well as healthcare professionals interested in collaborating on improving transition programmes across Europe.

Peer Visit topic: late effects and long-term follow-up care
  • The overall aim of this group is to contribute to a roadmap about “Recommendations for implementation of long-term follow-up care” and to a position paper about “Long-term follow-up care and Late Effects” that will be developed based on existing literature and the peer study reports resulting from the Peer Visits institutions in the Netherlands, Austria and Spain which have long-term follow-up care in place.
  • Expected participants: 20 participants, including young people with lived experience of cancer and young healthcare professionals interested in collaborating on improving long-term follow-up programmes across Europe.
