On December 14th, Youth Cancer Europe will host an impactful inclusivity training in Timisoara, Romania bringing together 100 young people with lived experience from the local “Temerarii” Community.
The workshop will be organised with the help of Little People Romania during one of their most significant and cherished annual events – the Temerarii Christmas Gala. The Little People is a Romanian association supporting children affected by cancer, the founder of Youth Cancer Europe, and an Associated Partner in the EU-CAYAS-NET project.
Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) principles, learn how to apply them to address the unique needs of diverse patient communities in Romania, and advocate for a more equitable and inclusive approach to cancer care. The Training will further expand the reach of the “Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Principles in Cancer Care” Training Program & Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Toolkit launched earlier this year and will explore a wide range of key topics designed to deepen participants’ understanding and application of EDI principles in cancer care:
- The ABCs of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
- Recognizing and understanding inequality in cancer care
- Addressing discrimination
- Cultural awareness
- Cultural humility
- Inclusive communication
- Understanding the impacts of privilege and bias
- Creating safe environments
- Effective advocacy
Highlights from the recent “Recommendations for Equitable, Diverse, and Inclusive Cancer Care in Europe” Policy Event, held at the European Parliament in Brussels, will be presented. The event will also inform participants about other ongoing EU projects and initiatives, as well as opportunities to get involved and engage within the local community efforts.
