This study looked at gay and bisexual men with prostate cancer. Some had pets (like dogs or cats), and some didn’t.
The study found that people with only cats or only dogs felt a bit more stressed and down in the dumps compared to those with no pets. But if you had both cats and dogs, it didn’t seem to make a big difference.
When it came to feeling physically well, only cat owners felt a little better, but this didn’t last when they looked at all the details. So, having pets, especially cats or dogs, might affect how you feel, especially your mental health. But it also depends on other things like how old you are, how much money you make, and if you live with someone.
Understanding these things can help doctors take better care of people with prostate cancer who have pets.
