Jahr:2017

The book ‘Life after childhood cancer’ (published October 2017) contains 24 stories of people who had cancer as a child. They talk about how they experienced the disease as a child and how the disease and treatments affect their lives. The interviewed survivors have had various forms of childhood cancer at various ages and in different years, between 1964 and 2008.

The interviews are both about the period of the illness itself and the period after it. The survivors talk about the impact the disease had on their families, their time at school, and their relationships with peers. They express how they experienced the treatments in the hospital and to what extent they have physical or mental health consequences. In addition, the interviews are about how the experience has shaped them, about willpower and zest for life.
